H&R Block hires former cannabis executive as chief legal officer
On Monday, H&R Block Inc. (NYSE: HRB) announced the hiring of Dara Redler as chief legal officer. Redler formerly was general counsel and corporate secretary for the global cannabis business Tilray Inc. (Nasdaq: TLRY).
She joins the Kansas City-based tax services company following the retirement of Tom Gerke as general counsel and chief administrative officer.
H&R Block President and CEO Jeff Jones said in a release that Gerke helped guide the company through important transactions, litigation matters and strategic transitions and he wishes him the best in his retirement. He said he his thrilled to have Redler join as a partner and a member of H&R Block's senior leadership team.
"She brings a wealth of experience in leading good governance, driving strategic negotiations, and navigating complex legal and regulatory matters," Jones said. "Her expertise and leadership will be the perfect addition as we continue on our transformation journey."
While at Tilray, where she was the first general counsel for the company, Redler built a worldwide legal team and oversaw global growth, helping create one of the world's largest cannabis businesses by revenue. Prior to joining Tilray, Redler was vice president and senior counsel for The Coca-Cola Company North America, where she worked for nearly 18 years, holding several leadership roles in the legal division.
